Building External Links

Whilst a search engine will help visitors find your web site, a link to your web site from another can be considered as more of a referral and may have a stronger element of trust associated with it. If your site is an enthusiast's site then there will doubtless be independent sites offering links and maybe even recommendations to sites such as yours.

Get your site listed on some of these pages and the additional traffic may well be better qualified than that you'll get from a search engine.

Link popularity is a term used to measure how many sites are linked to your own in this way, in other words, how popular is your site to others? The higher the count the better some search engines will rank you, as they will conclude that your site has good content.

Link Popularity and Tracking

Are you fed up with seeing links to your competitors web sites and not your own? are you sensing that they're getting a piece of the action that you want?

Visiting your competitors web sites is one way to find out what they're offering and aligning your own site content favourably alongside and preferably ahead. We'll check their site content, but more importantly we'll track links to their site and attempt to match them when possible. You need to at least have links to your site alongside theirs.

With link tracking being carried out (over time) your site will be placed at least as favourably as your competition. In addition, by actively establishing links away from your competitors you will gain an advantage over them. Many companies do not have this level of commitment to their sites, and therefore it's unlikely that many of them will be operating a similar strategy.

There's only a certain amount of traffic available to you irrelevant of how successful your site may be. If the traffic's not there for what you want to do online then whatever site you set up won't get busy. This fact will become less relevant as more people are going online, but it reinforces the argument for trickle feed investment. It may also mean that encouraging some of your competitors traffic to your site, early on, will get you customer loyalty at a later date.
